6 Days Mount Kenya Trek using the  Burguret Route

The 6 days Mount Kenya trek via the Burguret Route for the ascent and Chogoria Route for the descent is a well-paced adventure to Point Lenana (4,985m). This combination offers trekkers a perfect mix diverse landscapes, and stunning views of glacial valleys and waterfalls. Additionally as Africa’s second-highest mountain, Mount Kenya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-visit for trekking enthusiasts.

Mount Kenya Burguret Route

The Burguret Route is one of the lesser-used and most adventurous trails on Mount Kenya. Known for its wild and untouched nature, this trail offers trekkers an authentic experience through dense forests, bamboo zones, and high-altitude moorlands. The route starts at Gathiuru Forest Station, leading through lush montane forests teeming with buffaloes, elephants, and colobus monkeys. Additionally the initial trek requires navigating through thick vegetation, making it one of the more challenging approaches to the summit.

As trekkers ascend, the trail gradually opens up to reveal heathlands and alpine meadows, with breathtaking views of the Teleki Valley and peaks of Batian and Nelion. Unlike the busier routes, the Burguret Route is more remote, offering an exclusive and peaceful trekking experience. The final ascent to Point Lenana is via the Lewis Glacier, providing a rewarding challenge before descending through the scenic Chogoria Route, famous for its majestic valleys, waterfalls, and crystal-clear lakes.

Who Is This Trek Recommended For?

The Burguret Route is ideal for experienced trekkers who enjoy challenging and less-traveled paths. Due to its rugged terrain, thick forest, and occasional high winds, this route demands a good level of fitness and endurance. The remoteness and difficulty of navigation make it best suited for adventurers seeking solitude and a raw wilderness experience.
