Day 1: Nairobi to Sirimon Gate to Old Moses Camp (3,300m)

Your Mount Kenya trekking journey begins with a morning departure from Nairobi at 8:00 AM. After a scenic 3-4 hour drive to Nanyuki, the gateway to Mount Kenya, you will meet your trekking crew and complete a thorough gear check to ensure you’re ready for the adventure ahead. From Nanyuki, a short drive brings you to Sirimon Gate (2,650m), where the trek officially begins.

The first day’s hike takes you along a 9km trail to Old Moses Camp. The trail passes through the drier side of Mount Kenya’s rainforest, offering chances to spot wildlife like bushbucks, dik-diks, baboons, and the iconic black-and-white colobus monkeys. Bird enthusiasts will enjoy sightings of Hartlaub’s turaco, African pied wagtail, and Jackson’s francolin.

As you climb higher, you transition into the giant heath zone, where the Old Moses Camp is located. Here, you’ll enjoy a warm welcome from your team, delicious meals, and stunning views to prepare you for the next day.

Day 2: Old Moses Camp to Likii North Camp (3,993m)

The trek offers plenty of birding opportunities, with species such as the mountain chat, slender-billed starlings, and the scarlet-tufted malachite sunbird frequently spotted. After a rewarding day of hiking, you’ll arrive at Likii North Camp, nestled at the base of Sendeo and Terere peaks, where you’ll spend the night under the stars.

Day 3: Likii North Camp to Shipton’s Camp (4,200m)

Today’s trek leads you up the stunning Likii North Valley and descends into the Mackinder’s Valley, with its dramatic views of the peaks. Along the way, keep an eye out for the Verreaux’s eagle, which often soars above 4,000m in search of its primary prey, the rock hyrax.

As you approach Shipton’s Camp, you’ll encounter rock hyraxes basking on the sunlit rocks or seeking shelter in colder weather. Shipton’s Camp offers a breathtaking panorama of Mount Kenya’s towering peaks, including Batian and Nelion.

Day 4: Shipton’s Camp to Point Lenana (4,985m) and Back to Shipton’s Camp
