3 Days Mount Kenya Trek – Route: Sirimon – Sirimon

Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro. The highest peaks of the mountain are Batian (5,199 metres (17,057 ft)), Nelion (5,188 metres (17,021 ft)) and Point Lenana (4,985 metres (16,355 ft)). Mount Kenya is located in the former Eastern and central provinces of Kenya, now Meru, Embu, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Nyeri and Tharaka Nithi counties, about 16.5 kilometres (10.3 mi) south of the equator, around 150 kilometres (93 mi) north-northeast of the capital Nairobi.

This is the most possible minimum time at which you can reach the summit.


Day 1: Sirimon Gate – Old Moses Camp 3-4 hrs, 9km
Leave Nanyuki town for Sirimon gate 2650m where the hike begins to old moses camp 3300m which is a 9km trek in an average 3hrs.


Spend the night at old Moses camp.


Day 2: Old Moses Camp – Shipton Camp 6-7hrs, 14km,
After one hour from Old Moses Camp, the track crosses Ontulili River. Then contouring through the Moorland and crossing Likii North and continue uphill to Mackinders Valley from where there are panoramic views up the valley towards the main peaks.


Day 3:Shipton Camp-Point Lenana- Old Moses Camp – Nanyuki town
Wake up early morning at about 3am for a 3hrs hike to point lenana 4985m for a spectacular sunrise from the summit .later descend to shiftons camp for breakfast and then to Oldmoses camp where you get transport back to Nanyuki town.
