Day 1: Nairobi City to Sirimon Gate to Old Moses Camp (3,300m)
  • Driving Distance: 195 km (Nairobi to Sirimon Gate)
  • Trekking Distance: 9 km
  • Altitude Gain: +700m

Start your adventure with a 7:00 am pickup from your Nairobi hotel. Enjoy a scenic 3-hour drive covering approximately 195 km to Nanyuki town, the base for the Sirimon Route. After a quick stop to meet your trekking crew and check gear, continue by vehicle to Sirimon Gate (2,600m), about 23 km from Nanyuki.

From Sirimon Gate, embark on a 9 km trek to Old Moses Camp (3,300m). This 3–4-hour hike through rainforest terrain features wildlife such as waterbucks, bushbucks, baboons, and Colobus monkeys. Bird enthusiasts can spot Hartlaub’s turaco and Jackson’s francolin. Overnight at Old

Day 2: Old Moses Camp to Shipton’s Camp (4,200m)

  • Altitude Gain: +900m

After an early breakfast, start your trek through the moorland and afro-alpine zones. This 14 km trek takes 6–8 hours and passes through the Mackinder Valley, offering stunning views of Mount Kenya’s rugged peaks.

Along the way, discover unique vegetation, such as tussock grass and lobelias, and spot wildlife, including rock hyraxes and Verreaux’s eagles. Bird enthusiasts might also see scarlet tufted malachite sunbirds and mountain chats. Arrive at Shipton’s Camp (4,200m) for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Shipton’s Camp to Point Lenana (4,985m) and Back to Shipton’s Camp
  • Trekking Distance: 12 km (round trip)
  • Altitude Gain: +785m (to summit)
  • Altitude Loss: -785m (back to Shipton’s Camp)

Begin your summit attempt at 3:00 am, ascending 785m to Point Lenana (4,985m). Reaching the summit at sunrise provides breathtaking views, including Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days.

After celebrating your achievement, descend back to Shipton’s Camp for breakfast. Spend the rest of the day resting and enjoying the stunning scenery around Shipton’s Camp. Dinner and overnight at Shipton’s Camp.

Day 4: Shipton’s Camp to Old Moses Camp (3,300m)

After breakfast, begin your descent through the Mackinder Valley, retracing your path back to Old Moses Camp. This 14 km trek offers another chance to appreciate the diverse flora and fauna of Mount Kenya, including tussock grass, lobelias, and possibly even sightings of wildlife like Verreaux’s eagles and rock hyraxes.

Arrive at Old Moses Camp in the afternoon, where you’ll enjoy dinner and overnight accommodations.

Day 5: Old Moses Camp to Sirimon Gate (2,560m) to Nairobi City

  • Altitude Loss: -740m
  • Driving Distance: 195 km (Sirimon Gate to Nairobi)

After breakfast, hike 9 km through the rainforest to Sirimon Gate (2,560m). The descent offers excellent birdwatching opportunities and potential wildlife sightings, including monkeys basking in the morning sun.

At Sirimon Gate, celebrate completing your trek (Congratulations!). Transfer by vehicle to Nairobi, a 195 km drive, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel, marking the end of your Mount Kenya adventure with Ahambi Tours.
