Day 1. Chogoria town-Chogoria gate (2960m).

On the eastern side of the mountain, chogoria is the base town for the hike.

With 10km to the forest boundary which stretch for another 22km to chogoria gate, you will drive for 22km into the forest and trek for last 10km to chogoria gate.

This is a walk through the dense rainforest which is home to different bird species and wildlife.

Black-and-white colobuses and the syke`s monkeys are some of the animals likely spotted in this region of the forest, waterbucks and buffalos also frequently visit the campsite at twilight. The Hatlaub`s turaco bird is commonly seen flying from tree to tree, her red wings being such a splendor, the common bulbul, olive thrush and the African pied wagtail are some of the common birds here.

The hike is about 2-3hrs arriving at the Meru Mount Kenya bandas situated few meters away from the Chogoria gate where you will spend your first night.

Day 2.Chogoria gate-Chogoria road head (3300m).

The second day`s hike will be through the heath forest where you will have a detour for a visit to the L.Ellis and then to the Chogoria road head located along the Nithi river in time for lunch. This is a trek full of amazing panoramic view of the landscape and after an afternoon rest, you will visit the Nithi waterfall, a kilometer away from the campsite.

Day 3. Chogoria road head-mintos hut (4200m)

Through the moorland and into the afro alpine zone, the gorges valley will spice the views all day with a changing landscape and the peaks will be in view from 3800m. The camp is by the hall tarns and an evening walk to the cliff on the gorges valley will reward you with an amazing view of the L.Michaelson`s at the bottom.

Day 4. Mintos hut-Austrian hut (4790m)

From the Mnntos hut, this is a day where you will hike from the afro alpine zone to the alpine zone. With tarns and glacier lakes to see, you will also have a closer view of the main peaks on your way to the Austrian hut through the tooth col. A visit to the icy cave by the Lewis gracier will be ideal as you await the day to Pt. Lenana summit.

Day 5.  Austrian hut-Pt.Lenana (4985m)

In order to catch the spectacular sunrise on the summit as the climax, the hiking will begin at about 0500hrs from the Austrian hut to be on the summit by sunrise for an amazing view and experience with a chance to see Mount Kilimanjaro as well far south. After the photo session to keep the memories, you will descend back to Austrian hut for breakfast.

The rest of the day will be taken easy for your body recovery in preparation of the climax event, climbing to the Batian peak (5199m) through Nelion peak (5188m).

Day 6. Austrian hut-Batian peak (5199m)

After an early breakfast, you will proceed to the climbing base arriving at daybreak for the final ascent to the second highest peak in Africa. This a full day event and you will be getting back to Austrian hut by evening or later at night depending on your fitness and the weather for your last night on the mountain.

Day 7. Austrian hut-Met station camp (3300m)

With mission accomplished here, you will descend to the Met station, passing through the Mackinder`s camp on the Teleki valley and down the moorland.

Arriving at the Met station camp having conquered the mountain (CONGRATULATIONS), you will catch your transport to Naromoru town via Naromoru gate and later to your preferred destination.
